Police are hunting for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in her home in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

The man broke into the victim’s Queenstown home early on Sunday morning between 12.30am and 2am by jemmying open a kitchen window while the 55-year-old victim was asleep.

Police said the man was in the home for at least 30 minutes trying to clean up, before escaping through the front door.

“He made every effort to try and clear the property of any of his fingerprints or DNA,” Detective Charmaine Peters from the Sexual Crime Investigation Branch.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s, about 182cm tall, with a muscular build and short black, wavy hair.

He had a distinctive tattoo on his inner left arm, a swollen and bloody injury to his lower lip and strong body odour.

Police are reviewing CCTV video and are conducting door knocks in the area.

They said the victim and offender are not known to each other.

Police said they are working with the victim to produce an identikit of the suspect and have asked residents to be particularly vigilant to home security and their personal safety.
