Motorist injured in police chase

An innocent victim had to be rushed to hospital after being caught up in a police chase in Adelaide’s western suburbs this morning.

The woman’s car was hit when a car allegedly driven by a wanted parolee veered onto the wrong side of West lakes Blvd at Albert Park and slammed into the car she was driving.

Police said the man was spotted driving on Port Rd at about 9.10am and officers briefly pursued the vehicle before the crash, which occurred near the Albert Park train station.

“We have an independent pursuit commander that oversees what occurs and what is happening, there is continual sit reps that that person hears; speed, conditions, etc,” Superintendent Howard Davies said.

Police did not terminate the pursuit before the collision.

Officers had been hunting the suspect for five days.

After the crash, the suspect fled but was arrested nearby.

Two of his passengers helped the injured woman in the other car.

The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with chest injuries, and is in a stable condition.

A 29-year-old North Haven man has been charged with a string of offences.
