Bogus lollipop man tries to snatch boy

A young boy has escaped an attempted abduction by a man posing as a school crossing supervisor in Melbourne's north.

The 13-year-old boy told police he was stopped by a man who asked him for directions while walking along Sydney Road, in Coburg, at around 8.30am.

Police say the man then lured his victim to a car park in nearby Waterfield Steet, where he showed him a school crossing supervisor uniform in the back of his car.

The attacker then lunged at the boy, but he managed to get away.

The man is described as being of Indian appearance, 170 to 175 centimetres tall, of medium build, with dark hair and a bald spot.

He was wearing a black Puma jacket, with mustard-coloured pants, and was wearing silver rings on his right hand.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
