Warning over Pakenham siege

Five people have now been arrested over a siege drama in Melbourne's outer east today.

Four men and a woman were arrested following a two-hour siege at a home in Gardiner Street, Pakenham.

Police cordoned off the intersection of Gardiner Street and Duncan Drive, following a report of shots fired in a backyard.

Acting Sen Sgt Peter Watson said officers negotiated a peaceful surrender.

Police have conducted a search of the house, but no firearms have been recovered.

It is understood two people arrested inside the home have since been released.

Residents in the area - including those at a retirement home and a kindergarten - were told to stay indoors, and people have been advised to avoid the area.

The siege started at around 11am this morning, following reports of a domestic dispute.
