Woman's body found

A 22-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries following the discovery of a woman's body in Mornington Peninsula.

Homicide detectives say the 54-year-old woman died after being struck with a blunt instrument.

The victim's body was discovered by friends at her home in Macedon Avenue, in Dromana, at about 9.20am.

Officers investigating the death say neighbours heard screams coming from the house and a male voice at about 9.15pm last night.

Police are treating the death as a blunt trauma. A pathology test will confirm exactly how the woman died.

Investigating officer Ron Iddles says police would like to speak to a woman who visited the victim shortly after midday yesterday.

He told 7NEWS: "Police have attended this house previously, but she's not known in the criminal sense. She's had issues with people visiting her here at the house

The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries, and no charges have been laid at this stage.
