Clerk fights back against armed robbers

An armed robbery hasn't gone to plan for two men in the US after the clerk behind the counter decided not to follow their orders.

The two men entered the Fast-N-Friendly convenience store in Denver, Colorado with hoods covering their faces, and immediately pointed a gun at an elderly customer.

They then turned their attention to the man behind the counter; pointing the gun and ordering him to open his till.

What the suspects didn't know is that the clerk, 24-year-old Cody Purcell, is an Iraq war veteran.

At first Mr Purcell complies, before boldly (and somewhat foolishly) leaping over the counter and taking on one of the armed robbers.

The scuffle moved to the back of the store, where Mr Purcell took control of the gun.

As the two men fight their way towards the exit, the armed robber can be heard pleading with Mr Purcell to let him go.

"Let me go, and we'll be gone, I swear to God!" he pleaded before eventually making off with around $70.

After the scuffle, Mr Purcell reportedly realised the weapon was actually just an air gun.

Denver police have released the footage in the hopes of identifying the suspects, who have not yet been caught.
