Girl, 13, bashed in sickening brawl at Sydney train station
A 13-year-old girl has been bashed by up to six teenagers at a Sydney train station.
She was hit with a ferocious barrage of punches, knees and kicks last Tuesday afternoon.
The girl's mother believes her life was saved by her young friend who bravely stepped in to shield her from the onslaught.
A camera was already recording, ready to capture the first blow.
In the footage captured, a gang of teenage girls can be seen launching into a savage attack at Blacktown station.
The victim, only 13, is repeatedly kneed and punched.
One attacker even pushes her way in to throw the next blow.
The kicks keep coming even when the girl's 15-year-old best friend steps in and shields her.
She lies over the top of the young girl to take the brunt of the bashing.
“I'm so grateful for her action, she saved my daughter's life you know. I'm really proud of her,” the victim’s mother said.
The victim cannot be identified for legal reasons. She said she feared she would be killed before her football teammate stepped in.
“It made me so happy that she was there because if she wasn't who knows what could have happened to me,” the young girl told 7 News.
Her friend also took several blows to the head, leaving her battered and bruised.
“At the end of the day, I was there for my friend, my best friend, and that's all that matters to me, as long as she's safe,” the 15-year-old said.
The girls said they did not know their attackers.
The victims have spoken out because they feared for the safety of other innocent people.
They have called for security at train stations to be bolstered before the next attack turns fatal.
“Security [that is] able to rip them apart when they are going at each other, security that will get in there. We need bouncers down there," the girl's mother said.
Blacktown Council supports the idea so that teenagers would not be left to fend for themselves.
A 16-year-old girl who is believed to be the ring-leader of the group was arrested and dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
That has angered the victim's family who wanted to see her face court.
There are five other girls in the video who police have yet to identity.
The victim's mother said the vision going viral showed the attackers for the bullies they were.
