Road raging Canberra driver picks fight with wrong cyclists - including Tony Abbott

A road raging Canberra driver learned a lesson about protecting the powerful when she blasted a pack of cyclists that happened to include Tony Abbott.

One witness described the events that unfolded Wednesday morning as the pedal-powered pollies cruised along the road near Lake Burley Griffin.

"She was appalling, she lent on the horn and kept it on while weaving between cyclists and crossing yellow lines," the witness told Fairfax.

"She picked the wrong time, wrong place and definitely the wrong person."

It is not certain whether the woman was a Canberrian, but the witness said she was not young and should have known better.

As her on-road tirade was in full swing a white BMW Commonwealth car arrived at the scene, carrying an AFP officer – possibly the former PM and colleagues' security detail.

The officer pulled the woman over at the Hyatt Hotel where she was last seen chatting with the Fed.

Mr Abbott's cycling clique was not acting in a way that warranted the woman's reaction, according to the witness who was also cycling but in a different group to Mr Abbott.
