A girl who should be dead were it not for the ‘hand of God’ will graduate with the rest of her classmates from high school on time.

Taylor Hale, 17, was declared brain dead after a car accident in 2011 where she slid off a car bonnet and hit her head on a pavement.

The US teenager, who attends Waukee High School in Iowa, was rushed to hospital and put in a medically induced coma, reports the Des Moines Register

Taylor fought the injury but remained unresponsive for a week after the accident.

She then suffered a brain hemorrhage and her brain partially sank onto her spinal cord.

Taylor’s family were told there was nothing more the doctors and nurses could do and so they gathered round to say their final goodbyes.

Taylor was brain-dead and it was that afternoon Jeff Stickel, a chiropractor and friend of Taylor's parents visited the hospital.

Mr Stickel laid hands on Taylor and prayed that she would be healed.

That afternoon doctors turned off the life support machine that should have been the end.

But the family believe God’s power saved Taylor and she started to breathe on her own.

Taylor’s dad Chuck Hale told the Des Moines Register: "It was the hand of God at work.

"That's the only thing that can explain it."

Progress was slow but Taylor has had to re-learn how to walk, talk and do everything from scratch.

The devastated teenager told reporters that she can no longer remember her childhood.

She said: “I was angry because I used to be able to do this stuff by myself, and now I couldn't.”

But on Monday Taylor will put on a cap and gown and graduate with the rest of her class.

She will then be off to Des Moines Area Community College, where she plans to study to become an event planner for two years.

She added: "Something I learned from this whole experience is you never know when life is going to take you or your loved ones, so you need to keep them close to you and spend as much time with them as you can and just keep fighting.”
