Castle hits Brisbane property market

If you are searching for a home to live happily ever after in, then you will be pleased to hear that a castle fit for a king has hit the property market.

A fairytale home which is fully equipped with a draw bridge and princess room is up for rent in Brisbane’s west.

The Crossman Castle, which was built at Mount Crosby in 2009 by Ben and Penelope Crossman, can be rented for $550 per week and was previously listed for sale at $850,000.

Ben said that while he had not received any offers to buy the castle, there had been plenty of interest in the one of a kind home since it was put on the rental market.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the last few days, it’s been pretty crazy,” said Ben.

He said that the couple had bought the property shortly after they met.

“When we bought the place we did not really have a plan,” Ben continued. “But we didn’t just want to build any old house.”

So the Crossman’s decided to build a four bedroom castle, complete with a cast-iron chandelier in the living area, a wooden double door entry, tudor style interiors and other medieval features.

However, the home also has all the modern trappings with an open plan kitchen that comes with a gas oven, Ethernet internet ports in every room, eco-friendly solar panels and a water tank.

Ben said it would be hard to leave the castle, which has many special memories for the couple.

It was the backdrop for their medieval wedding in 2010 and home to their own little princess, their daughter Elizabeth.

“We’ve had many themed parties and board game nights over the years,” he said.

“We even had Elizabeth’s daycare class over for an excursion once and they just loved it, she was like a superstar.”

While the Crossman’s are moving on, they already have plans for another unique building.

“We are moving down to the Gold Coast,” Ben explained. “Our plan is to settle down and then build again, this time it will be a pirate ship pub.”

But Ben admitted he was going to miss his castle.

“When I come home from work, I drive up to the house and think I can’t believe we built this castle, its incredible.

“I’m hoping to rent it out to someone who will love it as much as we have,” he said.
