Man critical after serious assault
A 72-year-old man is fighting for life after an object was thrown at his four-wheel-drive before he was seriously assaulted in Central Queensland this morning.
It's thought he was driving along Glenella Connection Road in Mackay when an object was thrown at his car, shattering his windscreen.
The driver suffered facial injuries from the shattered glass and stopped his car, when a man approached him and further assaulted him.
He was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition with severe head and facial injuries.
Drivers are urged to seek an alternate route with the road remaining closed between the Hume Street roundabout and Heaths Road.
It's thought it was a random attack.
A man is being questioned by police.
