Police apologise for 000 blunder

An investigation is underway after vital information given to a 000 operator wasn't passed on to officers searching for a missing girl at Loganlea this morning.

Davina June Gardner-Morrison went missing from her aunt’s house in Logan around 2.30am (AEST).

The four-year-old was found by a stranger around 4.45am (AEST), who immediately contacted 000 and was told to wait at his residence.

At 6am (AEST) police received a phone call from the young girl’s family to report her missing.

A search was initiated involving door-knockings, police dogs and a rescue 500 helicopter.

After several hours waiting for police, the Good Samaritan made a second call to emergency services at 9am (AEST).

Police say officers immediately attended the man’s address after the second call and reunited the young girl with her family.

In a statement, the Queensland Police Service apologised for their mistake and said there will be a review of the incident.

They revealed the initial call had been misinterpreted and police wrongly thought Davina had been returned to her parents.

The family of the young girl said they were overwhelmed with emotion on hearing she had been found.

Her father, Robbie, said it was a terrifying ordeal.

“I was thinking, who would do this, who would take her,” Mr Gardner-Morrison said.

"You got to treasure your family because you don't know how long they're here for.

“I think you just got to be more aware and just look, you know, keep an eye on them better,” he said.
