Pop music gets its first Aussie festival

Australia is getting its first pop music festival.

The iHeart Radio Musical Festival is coming Down Under in October, with pop powerhouse Miley Cyrus named as the headline act.

Redfoo and rapper Miracle have also been named on the line-up with more acts yet to be named.

The poptastic festival has been running in the US since 2011, with performances from big name acts including Paul McCartney, Prince and Katy Perry having all graced its stages.

In 2012, Prince joined Mary J Blige mid-set on stage for a surprise collaboration in Las Vegas.

Last year, the Vegas festival welcomed Ylvis on stage as a surprise with his viral hit The Fox.

It was also the first time Cyrus performed her No.1 hit Wrecking Ball live, so the pop star might use her slot in Australia to debut some new music.

In the US, organisers have revealed there will be some surprises at this year's festival and hinted that there's going to be a major collaboration on stage.

The festival in Vegas has a distinctly Aussie flavour this year with both Iggy Azalea and 5 Seconds of Summer on the line-up for the event.

Fellow Antipodean Lorde is also on the stellar line-up in the US alongside poptastic pals Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande.

What delights await Australian audiences have yet to unfold but, make no mistake, pop music is taking over.

The iHeart Radio Australia Music festival will take place on October 18 at Allphones Arena, Sydney. Tickets go on sale from September 4.
