Origin dominates the TV ratings

The final State of Origin clash between NSW and Queensland just managed to snare the first three placings in the overnight ratings on Wednesday.

Queensland's 32-8 win in the dead rubber at Suncorp Stadium attracted 2.141 million viewers collectively on the Nine Network's primary channel Nine and its secondary channel Gem (in Perth).

The Pre Match telecast was second with 1.424 million and the Post Match segment was third with 1.299 million viewers.

All three segments were well down on viewing numbers compared to game two of the series when a record 2.682 million viewers witnessed NSW break its State Of Origin drought.

The drop in numbers is understandable given Queensland was mainly playing for pride and NSW had already secured the 2014 Origin title.

Network Ten's reality series MasterChef held up well in the face of a hot sporting contest with the cooking series finishing tenth with 971,000 watchers.

The only notable absentee from the top 10 was Ten's locally made drama Offspring which was 12th with 738,000 viewers.
