Plane crash at Bankstown Airport

A light plane pilot has escaped serious injury after it overshot the runway at Bankstown Airport.

It's understood the single-engine Diamond aircraft ran off the runway and crashed into a fence on the south-west side of the airport, around 9.30am.

The plane does appear to have any significant damage.


The female pilot was not injured, but assessed by paramedics on scene and one person was treated for shock.

The plane is owned by a company based at Bankstown Airport, Regal Air.

The runway was closed this morning but has since been reopen.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.

Meanwhile, police are conducting investigating after a man has suffered serious injuries in a light plane crash in Central New South Wales.

Police said the man was preparing to land on a rural property near Ivanhoe, just before 8am this morning.

The man sustained serious head, leg and ankle injuries.

He is expected to be flown to Broken Hill Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS).

The plane was completely destroyed in the crash, and the cause is still being investigated.
