Timetable changes have Adelaide commuters on the hop

A major shake-up of Adelaide’s public transport system kicked in today, but it has caught some commuters on the hop.

New bus and tram timetables came into effect this morning and while the government has assured commuters the changes are minimal, they have involved some services being re-routed and some being cancelled altogether.

“Where there’s a particularly low patronage, some buses, some of our buses have less that five people on them at times, we are reducing those services,” Lino Di Lernia from the Transport Department said.

Those heading back to school this week are urged to check their timetables with some routes in the north and south affected.

Many services are also be renumbered, with the intent of making life easier for students with numeric routes rather than alpha-numeric routes.

The changes will also see trams run every five minutes instead of every seven and a half minutes in peak periods, but shuttle services between South Tce and the city will be scrapped.

Below is a list of routes affected by the public transport shake-up.

Restructured key routes

• J7 - minor change to remove difficult right hand turn
• 371/372 discontinued and replaced by 374/312
