Woman's unique retribution on attacker
A woman has taken revenge on the man that beat her, deciding to publicly humiliate him on a roadside.
After a violent night out, Alisha Hessler, 20, made her attacker sit on a busy intersection for eight hours with a sign that said "I beat women".
Hessler met the man while out clubbing through friends of hers, ABC News reported.
Later that night, the man made unwanted sexual advances towards Hessler in the backseat of a car.
When she said no, the man hit her in the head.
"That's when he started beating me repeatedly until I had a broken nose and a concussion," Hessler told ABC news.
Despite filing a police report the next day, Hessler decided not to press charges after she saw a Facebook post from the man.
"Last night was a wake-up call. I seriously need change," the post read.
As a result, she gave the man a choice - public humiliation or a year in jail.
The unique form of retribution has garnered critics though, with the CEO of a Florida domestic violence centre, Mindy Murphy, outraged.
"There's so many problems with this," Murphy said to ABC news.
"Women die every day at the hands of abusers. Sexual assaults occur every day. The fact that we've got a guy sitting in a dunce cap with a sign on the side of the road really is trivialising a serious issue."
