Helmet cam captures shooting after motorbike theft

A helmet cam has captured the horrifying moments a would-be motorcycle thief was shot twice by police after attempting a daring heist at a Brazil traffic light.

Dramatic video has emerged online of a Honda Hornet rider slowing down at a Sao Paulo intersection after weaving through traffic.

The gunman, 35-year-old Escarante Leonardo Santos, then brandishes a .38 calibre pistol and orders the rider off his high-performance bike.

He then demands the terrified rider hands over his keys while continuing to point the gun at his face.

Just seconds after the gunman mounts his new bike, a military policeman is seen sprinting across the road before firing twice at the gunman.

As Santos falls to the ground his accomplice flees the scene.

While the condition of the gunman is unknown following emergency surgery, Brazilian newspaper Folha has since reported that he was shot in the stomach and leg.
