Liberal candidate accused of misleading voters

Labor minister Kate Ellis has accused her Liberal rival of using an information pamphlet to mislead voters about the Coalition’s plan for Adelaide’s South Rd.

The Liberals said they are committed to upgrading the entire South Rd corridor, but according to Kate Ellis, that doesn’t include the electorate of Adelaide.

She said the Coalition would can the upgrade underway from Torrens Rd to the River Torrens, instead directing funding to the Darlington end of South Rd, which falls within Boothby, the Liberals’ second-most marginal seat in the country.

“This candidate is either dishonest or incompetent,” Kate Ellis said.

“Can she admit what Tony Abbott has said publicly and that is that he will strip away the funding from our electorate to re-direct it elsewhere?”

Liberal candidate Carmen Garcia denies it is a glitch in her campaign, saying that with just over a week to go until the election, Kate Ellis is clutching at straws.

“I’m committed to fighting for the whole of South Rd, including our portion of it,” Ms Garcia said.

“My opposition has been getting a little worried and I might be getting under her skin a bit.”

But Ms Ellis responded with: “It gets under my skin when people mislead the people of Adelaide.”
