Fog and rain cause freeway chaos

Fog and light rain has caused havoc for commuters on the South-Eastern Freeway this morning, with a total of 16 cars involved in chain reaction crashes.

It blocked one lane of the down track just after 8am at Leawood Gardens, with traffic soon banking up through the Heyson Tunnels to the Stirling exit.

Tow trucks were needed to remove some of the vehicles, with the road cleared by 9.30am and traffic conditions back to normal by 10am.

Some motorists stuck in traffic told 7News they were almost an hour and a half late for work because of the delays.

No one was injured in the pile-up.
