Lions skipper struck by car

Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown has been hit by a car while riding his bicycle on the Gold Coast.

The fearless forward was hit by a late model Hyundai vehicle while riding with a group of other cyclists on the Gold Coast shortly after 6:00am on Tuesday.

The two-time All Australian, who turns 31 next Monday, suffered an elbow injury and was escorted to hospital shortly after the incident.

It is understood he received ten stitches to his wounded arm.

The Brisbane Lions released a statement on its captain's injuries, indicating he is fine after originally walking away from the scene, while the car had to be towed.

"Brisbane Lions can confirm captain, Jonathan Brown, was involved in an accident with a vehicle while riding his bike on the Gold Coast early this morning," the statement read.

"Brown was riding with a group of about 20 cyclists.

"He was taken a nearby hospital where he had a thorough check up - including scans - and was cleared of any serious injury.

"He received 10 stitches to an elbow."

Brown's most recent run of bad luck is compounded by a horror spate of unfortunate injuries sustained over the past two AFL seasons.

In 2011, he underwent surgery on two separate occasions for facial injuries, and he also was the victim of another freak training accident.
