High Court orders new trial for Jayant Patel

Former Bundaberg Surgeon Jayant Patel will face a new trial after the High Court quashed his manslaughter convictions for the death of three patients.

Patel, dubbed 'Doctor Death' by the media, worked as a surgeon at Bundaberg Base Hospital between March 2003 and April 2005.

In July 2010, he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment after a Brisbane Supreme Court jury found him guilty of the manslaughter of three patients and causing grievous bodily harm.
