Masked robbers steal ATM in ram-raid

Masked thieves have left a trail of destruction after a bumbling ram-raid at a bottle shop in Melbourne's north.

The culprits reversed a stolen tow truck through the window of the business in Derby Street, Pascoe Vale, at around 7.15am, it is alleged.

Police say the pair then attached a chain to an ATM and drove off, but the chain broke.

The pair continued driving and several blocks away they ended up in a collision with three cars at the intersection of O'Hea Street and Cumberland Road.

The shop owner saw that his ATM had been abandoned about 150 metres or so up the road, so he grabbed a trolley and wheeled it all the way back to his store.

The $2600 in the ATM remained in tact.

The police dog squad arrested one of the alleged thieves at the scene.

He is currently being held in custody.

Ambulance Victoria said one person was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
