Mowbray College put under administration

The educational futures of more than 1300 students at Mowbray College are unclear tonight after the school was placed in voluntary administration.

The school, which has three campuses in Melton and Caroline Springs, has left parents struggling to find alternative schools.

Administrators were called in today after the reports that the school is in more than $18million worth of debt. It's believed most of the debt is with the National Australia Bank who has withdrawn their support.

The Mowbray College chairperson Tracey MacKenzie said the school's critically needed cash flow.

The school had been advised that an increase of its overdrafts was not possible.

The State Government has knocked back requests for a $4million rescue package.

According to Ms MacKenzie said, the state government said it could bring forward the normal grants it offers but such a solution would only "delay the inevitable by a matter of weeks"

In a statement late today, Mowbray College again pleaded for government assistance.
