Man shot as he answers the front door

A man has been shot as he opened the door to strangers in the sixth shooting attack in Adelaide, in a fortnight.

A 43-year-old father was shot in the leg with a semi-automatic firearm shortly before 9 o'clock last night in Northfield.

Chief Inspector Brian Smith, from Holden Hill Police, said the victim told police he didn't know the men.

"The victim was not involved in any drug related matters, but we are following drug related inquiries," Chief Insp Smith said.

Police won't confirm whether the intended target was the victim's son, but they have ruled out the attack being bikie related.

The man has undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

After the shooting attack, the trio ran from the house and fled in a car parked nearby.

The main suspect is described as possibly having a southern European complexion, short dark hair, clean shaven, stocky build, about 172cm tall, with olive skin and wearing a dark coloured "UFC" long sleeve style top and dark long pants.

He was also wearing black gloves with a skeleton print on them. The other two suspects were taller with one wearing a dark top and the other a white top.

Police are asking anyone with further information on the incident to contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to their website.
