7News exclusive: Stun gun shopping in Bali

The tourist hotspot of Bali is doubling as an unregulated marketplace for electric weapons.

7News reports the idyllic holiday destination, popular with Australians, is also an easy place to purchase stun guns.

Some are deceptively designed, appearing like mobile phones.

Illegal in Australia for civilian use, the police force currently use stun guns as tools to inflict sudden, extreme pain in situations where they are under threat.

According to 7News, Australian customs has stopped 900 stun guns from entering the country through personal luggage and shipping containers.

Police say bringing stun guns back into Australia is considered an illegal import and can be seriously harmful and even fatal, "We've come across these devices used for criminal purposes, we're on the record with those prosecutions so we certainly take these offences seriously." Assistant Commissioner Alan Clarke says.
