Glowing orbs spotted over Thames Estuary

Skeptics may jump on the blurry, shaky video that is all too common with UFO sightings, but one stargazer believes he's finally caught a glimpse of something out of this world.

The man, known only as Space999dude, captured the moment a number of floating lights hovered over the Thames Estuary near Essex, the Daily Mail reported.

The mysterious floating object remained stationary as the filmer recorded while he drive past the river at night.

"I took this from my car but had to go because of where I was parked,' wrote the baffled motorist below his 53-second YouTube video," he said.

"Seems too bright for a boat and looked like it was above the water."

Space999dude said stargazers should always be on the lookout for phenomenon in the sky and should be prepared to capture the moment with video equipment.

"I always carry a camcorder in my car as I saw something a few years ago and think more people should be looking and keeping cameras at the ready," he said.

While this man appears to be a believer, many of those who have viewed his video don't share his enthusiasm.

"Why stop filming after 53secs?" asked one user. "That's the first sign of a hoax. Indoor lights reflected in the window is my guess."

Another user wrote: "Without details, it's impossible to even guess what this might have been.

"What was your location, which way were you pointing the camera, what was the time, what were weather conditions like.... and why didn't you zoom out to give us some perspective? No good telling us it was a 40 x zoom without something to compare it with."

Space999dude tried to explain away these criticisms by saying he had been caught off-guard by the glowing lights.

He said: "It was a very long way off and I was at full 40x zoom hence the shaky footage."

But whether that would be enough to stave off skeptics remains to be seen.
