Owner of car 'not police hit-run driver'

The owner of a Queensland plated Holden Commodore has been ruled out as the driver of a car that hit a police officer last night.

At about 8.30pm, the 51-year-old police officer was working at a Random Breath Testing station, when he was hit by the car, when the driver refused to pull over.

It's alleged the Commodore kept travelling north-east, driving away from the RBT unit on Churchill Road North at Cavan, in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

The police officer is now recovering in hospital with a broken leg, cuts and bruises.

The white, VN Holden Commodore was found abandoned later that night in Swan Court, at Mawson Lakes.

Police believe the driver is known to the owner of the car.

They are asking anyone who saw the accident, or with any further information to contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to their website.
