Kids targeted at shopping centre

Parents are being warned to keep an eye on their children, after two reported incidents of a man following children at Elizabeth City Shopping Centre, in Adelaide's northern suburbs.

Last month, on the 23rd, a woman and her young daughter were at the shopping centre, when police allege a man deliberately bumped into them.

He then continued staring at the girl, before following her and her mother to their car, where he tried to get in.

The man is described as short, with dark skin, wearing blue overalls, a jacket, hat and sunglasses.

The second incident occurred half an hour later, when a man was allegedly near a children's indoor play area at the popular shopping mall, and was acting suspiciously and trying to talk to and touch the children.

He was described as being 35 to 40 years old, of stocky build, bald and wearing a blue raincoat.

South Australian police are warning parents to supervise their children in public at all times.

Chief Inspector John De Candia from Elizabeth Police defended the delay in warning parents, more than a week after the incidents occurred.

"It's important that the information is verified, it's an allegation," he said.

"There is that need not to alarm people in relation to any allegation that is made to us, but send some reassurance, verify the information and then put out some of those details."

"There is a very good working relationship with the Elizabeth police and the Elizabeth City Centre."

"There is dedicated uniformed patrols that we have that work within that centre and work very closely within centre management."

Police are asking anyone with further information on the incident to contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to their website.
