Man, 23, dies in crash

Family and friends have this morning laid flowers at the scene of a dramatic crash that left a 23-year-old driver dead.

The young man died after his car rolled out of control, spearing through at least three front yards before hitting a house in Thornbury.

Investigators have been told the Honda Accord was travelling north along Victoria Road around 2.15am.

The driver, a 23-year-old Northcote man, lost control of his car and hit a traffic island.

Police believe the car then rolled a number of times, hit several trees, then careered through at least three front yards before hitting the house.

The driver died at the scene.

Local residents were left shaken after being woken by the sound of the car smashing nto the house.

Resident Amelia Tieri said: "There was a big bang, we were all shaking, we were all in bed asleep."

Police say they are sick of appealing to motorists to act responsibly behind the wheel.
