US President Joe Biden’s absence at Peace Summit in Switzerland would only cause applause from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Kroo in Brussels on May 28.

“I know that America supports the summit, but we don’t know at what level, I think it’s not a very strong decision,” Zelenskyy said.

“Not attending it will only be applauded by Putin. Putin will personally applaud. And standing up.”

He also added that Biden’s presence is also needed for other leaders who are looking at the US reaction.

“There will be a Peace Summit organized by whole world, and then there will also be something that Russia will try to do about it,” president said.

“And I believe that President Biden is needed by Peace Summit, and by other leaders who are looking at the US reaction.”

In addition, Zelenskyy noted that he expects a response from China, Brazil, several representatives of Africa, and many other countries regarding their presence at Peace Summit.

“We are open to everyone, every opinion is important to us,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Biden might skip the meeting to hold a fundraiser campaign in California.

Head of the Office of President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, allowed Russia’s participation in Global Peace Summit, but not in the first inaugural meeting at the level of leaders, but in the following ones. At the same time, Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that peace process is “unthinkable” without Russia.
