'Aging very well': Fans flip out over Disney star's 'scruffy' new look

It seems like only yesterday that a fresh-faced Zac Efron was singing his heart out on Disney’s family-friendly High School Musical franchise.

As if to prove that he’s well and truly left his squeaky-clean persona behind, the 32-year-old has debuted a more ‘scruffy,’ mature look — and his fans can’t cope.

In an episode from his new Netflix documentary series, Down To Earth, the Baywatch hunk strips down to his boardshorts to participate in some sort of bizarre jungle ritual that sees him enclosed in a steamy tent.

Far from being concerned about his welfare, viewers have instead taken to social media to share their disbelief at Zac’s transformation from HSM’s teen dream Troy Bolton to a muscular fully grown man.

“Zac Efron was a child five minutes ago and then this happened?” wrote one Twitter user.

“I am all here for the new thicc and scruffy Zac Efron!” said another.

“God damn Zac Efron is aging very well,” remarked one.

In Down To Earth, the Hollywood heartthrob travels the globe with wellness expert Darin Olien in search of healthy, sustainable ways to live. Sadly, the mini-series isn’t yet available on Netflix in Australia, so fans will have to content themselves with these photos instead.

Back in June, rumours swirled that Zac had been secretly living in Byron Bay for months after locals claimed to have spotted the actor in the NSW coastal town during the coronavirus pandemic.

In December 2019, the Greatest Showman star was filming another doco — Killing Zac Efron — in Papua New Guinea when he contracted a "form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection" and had to be rushed to an Aussie hospital for urgent treatment.
