Yukon RCMP charge man with kidnapping, sexual assault after Mayo home invasion
Yukon RCMP have released the name of a man accused of a sexual assault and home invasion in Mayo, Yukon.
William Dean Ryan Vaneltsi, 34, faces nearly a dozen charges, including sexual assault, kidnapping and forcible entry.
Police arrested Vaneltsi in Fort McPherson, N.W.T., on Oct. 19.
He became sick "shortly after being arrested," according to RCMP, and was brought to Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, where he remains in custody.
Police added that he will be brought to Whitehorse for a court appearance once he is medically cleared to fly.
The charges against Vaneltsi stem from a report earlier this month that a man had forced his way into a home in Mayo, assaulted a woman inside and then forced her to drive him to Whitehorse.
In a previous news release, police said the woman intentionally drove her car into a light pole to get away from the man, who then fled and was suspected of stealing a white truck belonging to wildland fire crews.
