Young dad fights for life after freak accident weeks before wedding

A dad is fighting for his life after a white water rafting accident left him hospitalised.

Armani Alicea and his fiancee Kelly Drake, from Florida, were celebrating their upcoming wedding in Tennessee recently with some white water rafting down the Occee River, according to a GoFundMe page made by Kelly Delmotte.

“About halfway through the trip, the raft struck a rock causing a huge jolt,” she wrote.

“Armani's t-handle of his oar hit him in the neck causing injury to his basilar artery resulting in a massive basilar stroke.”

The basilar artery helps supply blood to the brain.

Mr Alicea was hospitalised and remains unresponsive.

Both Mr Alicea and his bride-to-be are in their early 20s and share a two-year-old daughter named Gigi.

The young father is due to be married in a couple of weeks, Farath Diaz Godreau, Mr Alicea’s cousin, wrote on Facebook.

“We are all devastated by this news. We know God has a purpose, but this pill is a very big one to swallow,” she wrote.

On Friday, Mr Delmotte wrote the dad still remains in a critical condition on life support and is having “seizure activity”.

She added the family don’t have any relatives in Tennessee either.
