A young boy has died after being reported missing from his home in the Northern Territory two days ago.
The child tragically passed away after he was found on Friday in a remote community southwest of Alice Springs.
Northern Territory police said in a statement they launched a search and rescue operation late Thursday night after the boy’s family reported his absence to police.
The family had already searched for him for several hours before alerting authorities.
“Tragically the child was found in the community early this morning and has subsequently passed away," Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said on Friday.
"Police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
“We request that the family’s privacy is respected at this time and offer our sincere condolences for their loss."
The boy's exact age and his cause of death is unknown.
