Yellowknife RCMP say police arrested an 18-year-old who was in possession of a loaded handgun earlier this week.

On Sept. 18, officers went to a home to attempt to arrest a suspect in an unrelated investigation, and they say the suspect immediately fled.

"After a brief foot chase, officers were able to safely arrest the suspect, who was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, which was determined to have been stolen," stated a news release on Friday.

The teenager is facing eight charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, carrying a concealed weapon, and careless use of a firearm.

The suspect has been remanded in custody.
