New Year's Eve restrictions for Sydney

NEW YEAR'S EVE RESTRICTIONS:

GREATER SYDNEY, WOLLONGONG, CENTRAL COAST, BLUE MOUNTAINS

* Household gatherings limited to five visitors including children

* Outdoor gatherings reduced from 50 to 30

* These restrictions will remain in place until further notice

* People unable to socially distance urged to wear masks but not forced by law

* Visits to aged care facilities restricted until the end of January 6 and no residents from this area permitted to visit regional residential aged care facilities

INNER-CITY NEW YEAR'S EVE ZONES

* A Green Zone comes into effect from 5pm - includes Circular Quay and prominent public viewing points in North Sydney

* A Yellow Zone established around the Green Zone with entry only granted for permanent residents, their guests, and confirmed bookings at local venues

* People gathering in large numbers in these areas can be moved on by police

NORTHERN BEACHES

* Split into two zones; north of the Narrabeen Bridge and east of the Baha'i Temple while remaining areas are included in the Southern Zone

* From 4pm to end of January 1, households in the Northern Zone permitted five visitors including children from the same zone

* For the same time period, households in Southern Zone also only allowed five visitors including children from the same zone, down from 10.
