Yates signs new deal with Bike-Exchange

Australia's professional cycling team, BikeExchange-Jayco, have secured the services of their star rider Simon Yates for another two years.

The Englishman, who won the 2018 Vuelta a Espana with the team, will race for Bike-Exchange through to the end of 2024 after signing his contract extension.

Yates, who turned professional with the Australian-registered team, has competed for them in their various incarnations over nine years.

And though he's had an injury-hit year, which featured two stage wins at the Giro d'Italia before he had to abandon with a knee injury he suffered in an opening-week fall, Yates is ready to complete a decade with the team that he says "feels like home".

The 29-year-old Yates, who's expected to try to regain his Vuelta title in the Spanish grand tour that begins on August 19, said in a statement from BikeExchange-Jayco: "To continue with this team is very important for me.

"The journey so far from being a young neo-pro through to 2022 has been great.

"I've had a lot of success and many failures, and the team has always kept believing in me, given me the chance, and given me the support and space to develop.

"Everybody in the organisation knows me very well as a rider, how I work best, and the environment of the team has been important for me to feel comfortable and grow...

"I'm confident that we will achieve a lot more and I am pleased to be able to continue with this team that feels like home, into what will be my 10th and 11th seasons as a professional rider."

The team owner Gerry Ryan said: "We are very proud to have Simon continue his journey with us; he has been a key member of the team for nine years now and has provided our organisation with some of the most incredible moments, including our first Grand Tour victory.

"Simon will be an important part of the team's future; we have big ambitions and we are confident that together, we can achieve many more great things.

"We believe he will continue to be a great leader and be a great example to the new generation of GreenEDGE cycling riders."
