Emergency services were called to Carinya Road at Picnic Point in Sydney’s southwest about 11pm on Saturday.

People nearby had heard a man calling for help from the Georges River, police said in a statement on Sunday morning.

Bankstown police searched the area along with the police helicopter and Marine Area Command.

“An unoccupied boat and black sedan were located in the vicinity a short time later,” police say in the statement.

Police divers appear to be focusing around a roughly-10-metre closed cabin vessel named “Dee Too”.

“Dee Too” has a white tender dinghy tied to it.

Authorities have urged anyone with information or who saw a black Mercedes sedan in the area to contact police.
