Police catch distracted driver with very unique entertainment system

Police were left stunned they apprehended a driver who brazenly strapped his tablet and phone to the steering wheel of his car.

The unusual sight was first spotted by a traffic officer in Vancouver, who noticed that the driver was wearing a pair of earphones which led straight to the driver’s steering wheel.

Upon closer inspection, he realised that the driver had transformed the wheel into his very own car entertainment system

Posting on Twitter, the Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit shared a photo of the contraption in all its makeshift glory.

‘Can’t make it up. Guy had iPad and cell phone attached by strings on steering wheel while driving! Yes, that’s his ticket he’s holding’, they captioned the photo.

‘Not only is that dangerous from a distracted driving perspective, he’s essentially created his own personal shrapnel mine if the airbag were to deploy’, one user warned in response.

Another said: ‘If airbag was to deploy, that’s if he had his seatbelt on, it would be a proper smack in face from devices.’

Despite facing a distracted driving fine of $368, the man was only ticketed for failing to produce a license which amounts to $81. He was also given a talking to about the potential hazards of distracted driving.

Constable Jason Doucette said: ‘We are reminding drivers to leave their devices alone while behind the wheel. Our officer felt education was appropriate in this incident.’
