Fears North Korea to test more weapons in sign to US on 9/11

There are fears that North Korea could launch another missile test on Monday.

It was thought Kim Jong-un would do something on the weekend as part of celebrations for his country’s 69th birthday.

But Monday’s date is also significant.

In the capital Pyongyang, music, not missiles, marked foundation day.

“We don’t worry much,” one woman said. “As long as we have Kim Jong-un we’ll survive.”

They lined up to lay flowers at statues of Kim’s father and grandfather. The bizarre reality is they are honour 69 years of brutal dictatorship.

Lee Hyeon-Seo is a North Korean defector who endured the harshest childhood, regularly witnessing death through famines and executions.

“The first experience was when I was seven,” Lee sai. “It wasn’t a shooting, it was a hanging.”

She believes Kim Jong-un is motivated by self preservation; without nuclear weapons he fears the US will attack.

She says his ambition is simply survival but if his survival is threatened he will opt for nuclear war.

“So you die, I die, we all die together, that’s his theory,” Lee said.

On Monday the US will attempt to reign Kim in, calling for the toughest sanctions ever at the UN.

While some suggest that might be another trigger for a missile test; the date will be September 11.
