Diamonds are forever: US couple finds lost engagement ring nine years later on Italian holiday
A US couple who thought their lost engagement ring was gone forever couldn't believe their eyes when they discovered it nine years later on the other side of the globe.
A year after their wedding, New Jersey couple Justin and Margaret Mussel visited southern Italian town San Marco dei Cavoti in 2008, where Margaret’s family owns a home.
She told US media she had lost a bit of weight at the time and the white gold band carrying a 1.1 karat princess-cut diamond had become loose and slipped off.
Mrs Mussel said she was upset at herself for not being more careful while on holidays nine years ago, so her husband later bought a new ring to replace the one she lost.

"I just felt really bad that I could have prevented it from falling off, and I kept it on that day," Mrs Mussel told ABC7.
The couple, now aged 36, recently returned to Mrs Mussel's family's holiday home with their two sons, when they made the remarkable discovery.
Mr Mussel said he was sitting on his in-laws' porch on August 5 when he spotted something shiny wedged in a crack in the footpath ahead.
"I kept saying to Margaret, 'do you see that?' I see this glimmer coming out of the sidewalk," he said.
The determined husband fetched a screwdriver and dug out the object.

"I thought maybe it was a coin or something, but never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd ever actually find that ring again nine years later," he said.
His wife was in disbelief her ring has stood the test of time.
“The band is a little scuffed up, but not too bad,” she told USA today.
“The diamond looks good. If you saw it, you wouldn’t think it was in a crack for nine years.”
