Mum spent '20 minutes on Facebook' while baby drowned in bathtub

A US mother spent 20 minutes on Facebook while her six-month-old baby drowned in the bathtub, police have revealed.

Little Zayla Hernandez was left unsupervised while bathing in her mother’s Reno, Texas home.

Her 21-year-old mother, Cheyenne Summer Stuckey, told local police she left her toddler alone for a “couple of minutes” and desperately tried to apply CPR but didn’t know how.

Stuckey told authorities that she found her child face down and unresponsive in the water.

She added that it was another child running around that distracted her, making no mention of social media.

The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A preliminary autopsy report ruled that she died from drowning.

A subsequent investigation revealed Stuckey had been active on Facebook, messaging two people for at least 18 minutes as the girl was left alone in the bathtub.

The young mum has been charged with with injury to a child. Her bond has not yet been set.

Zayla reportedly had two four-year-old twin sisters and a two-year-old brother.
