'Bloody psycho': Alleged London attacker's violent history revealed

The Welshman who allegedly drove a hire van into a crowd of Muslims in London's north has been described as a "bloody psycho" who was recently thrown out of a pub while "cursing Muslims" in a rant.

Darren Osborne, 47, was arrested on suspicion of murder and a terrorist offence after he allegedly mowed down a crowd of people early Monday morning, killing one and injuring 11 others.

It's alleged the father-of-four hired a van in south Wales and drove to the Muslim Welfare House in north London on Sunday.

A little after midnight, Osborne then allegedly mounted the footpath near the Finsbury Park Mosque and slammed into a group of Muslims worshippers who had been helping an unwell man, the Daily Mail reports.

After the attack, witnesses said the suspect leapt from the vehicle and shouted, "I'm going to kill all Muslims – I did my bit."

Osborne was then tackled to the ground and restrained by community members.

The alleged act came as a shock to Osborne's mother Christine who said her son "is no terrorist" after she recognised him on the television.

"This is every mother's worst nightmare," the 72-year-old told The Sun.

"I'm at my wit’s end. I saw him on TV and recognised him straight away. I just screamed.

"My son is no terrorist — he's just a man with problems and I don't know how to cope with all this," she said.

The distraught mother said her son has never spoken "about terror attacks or talked about 'bloody Muslims' — never in a million years and that’s the truth".

She was speaking as police investigators swooped on Osborne's home in Cardiff.

Shocked by the day's developments, neighbours revealed that Osborne was recently thrown out by his wife and was forced to live in a tent.

Others reported he was ejected from the Hollybush pub in Pentwyn on Saturday night amid a drunken rant about Muslims.

"He got chucked out as he was so drunk," one regular told The Sun.

"He was cursing Muslims and saying he would do some damage."

Former friends who knew Osborne from another pub described a violent and troubled past of heavy drinking.

"The words I would use to describe Darren would be a 'bloody psycho'. He is vile," ," one woman from Weston-super-Mare told the Daily Mail.

"He would just drink too much and flip the switch I guess.

"I only witnessed one of his fights. It must have been 15 odd years ago."

Another woman said Osborne grabbed her around the throat two decades ago while someone else alleged he beat someone up with a belt buckle.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said the incident was a sickening, terrorist attack on Muslims.

"This morning, our country woke to news of another terrorist attack on the streets of our capital city: the second this month and every bit as sickening as those which have come before," May told reporters outside her Downing Street office.

"This was an attack on Muslims near their place of worship," said May who later visited the mosque.

The mosques' worshippers, mainly from North and West Africa, had just left prayers during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
