WATCH: Bus driver helps lost little girl on solo trip to the mall

An attentive bus driver has been praised for stopping a five-year-old girl, wandering the streets by herself.

Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver Tiffani Lee knew something was wrong straight away when she found the girl, prompting her to pull over and invite the child onboard.

"I'm a parent, so I knew no parent would let their children be outside in that kind of weather with a flip flop and a tennis shoe, no way," Wentland said.

After calling the police, a local officer walked onto the bus, knelt down and asked her where she lived before walking home hand-in-hand.

Promised a trip to the mall that day, the little girl was a little too impatient to wait for her mother.

Once reunited though, the mother heaped praise on the bus driver for her actions.

"Thank you (to) that bus driver. Thank you so much. I got my baby back," Wentland said.

The family said the child somehow unlocked the front door and left while her mother and siblings were asleep.
