Pictured: Poignant moment Domino's delivery boy stops in the street to adhere to minute's silence

A picture of a Domino's delivery boy in Europe standing beside his bicycle taking part in two minutes silence to remember victims of war has been widely shared online.

The poignant image, which was uploaded to Reddit, was taken on Remembrance Day which is on May 4 in the Netherlands and sees people observe two minutes silence at 8.00pm.

The act reportedly commemorates members of the armed forces and civilians who have died during war and peace-keeping operations.

The picture was uploaded to Reddit by a user named teymon and has received more than 1800 comments.

One Reddit user, Avacyn, commented on the image: "So, this happens every year on the 4th of May in the Netherlands. Ever since we were liberated from Nazi occupation.

"Today we remember our dead, tomorrow we celebrate our freedom. All cars stop, even on the motorways. All buses stop. All trains will make a full stop as well, no matter where they are."

The user Avacyn said for two minutes the country goes silent and the only thing you will hear is a barking dog or the wind.

They added: "I was having dinner at a restaurant when 8 o' clock came around. All staff stood in front of the bar, service stops and the whole restaurant goes silent. People randomly walking on the streets will stop and stand in silence.

"Cities across the country, universities and other public institutions will hold ceremonies and place flowers to remember those who died close to them."

According to the Iamsterdam website the silence is followed by a rendition of the first verse of the national anthem and a procession.

On May 5 the Netherlands celebrates Liberation Day.
