WATCH: Incredible rescue of two children after ute flips into river during tornado

Incredible footage has captured the rescue of two infant children trapped in an overturned car, fast filling with floodwaters.

Tom Mitchell felt compelled to do something to help his community as dramatic storms ravaged parts of Texas.

Jumping into his car to assess the damage to his community, he soon discovered the flipped ute in the middle of a river near Myrtle Springs.

Others quickly arrived on the scene and rushed to help, but found the water was flowing too fast to open any of the doors.

Moments later, the Good Samaritans learned of a baby, an infant and a father were inside and became instantly overcome with panic.

While the toddler was freed, desperate attempts to retrieve the younger baby took longer.

Minutes later a limp, lifeless body “going blueish grey” emerged from the vehicle.

“Dear Jesus, please let this baby breathe,” a woman can be heard screaming from the riverbank.

“This baby is gonna die if we don’t start CPR fast,” Tom can be heard saying.

The baby was placed in the rear of the ute as Tom started applying first aid to the child.

Minutes passed and the baby could be heard releasing a muffled breath, prompting some of the bystanders to turn their attention to the other child, who they also revived.

It is understood that the father survived the accident, however his role in the rescue remains unknown.
