Hernandez's 'prison lover' was the last person to see him alive before suicide

The last person to see former NFL footballer convicted of murder and found hanged in his cell last week Aaron Hernandez alive was his behind-bars lover.

Kyle Kennedy, 22, was one of three people to receive a suicide note from the disgraced New England Patriots star, the Daily Mail reports.

The other two people to receive notes from Hernandez were his fiancé, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez and their four-year-old daughter Avielle, prison sources said.

The convicted robber also received a $67,000 from the former pro-footballer.

Now Kennedy is on suicide watch at the maximum-security Souza-Baranowski Corrections Centre, sources told the newspaper.

When the paper approached Kennedy's father Matthew Kennedy, the 42-year-old declined to comment.

"Get the f*** away and don't f***ing come back," the jailbird's father said.

Kennedy Junior was booked two years ago after robbing a petrol station using a butcher's knife while wearing a balaclava.

He pocketed less than $200, fleeing with it in his vehicle and triggering a high-speed police chase that lasted until he ran out of petrol.

He was arrested and taken to the Northbridge Police Department in Massachusetts but bolted again when a police officer looked away for a moment.

A foot chase led officers through several neighbouring yards.

Kennedy was caught and thrown in jail but could be released as soon as next March, according to his online prison pen-pal profile on WriteAPrisoner.com.

Kennedy family lawyer Lawrence Army told the Mail he planned to visit the convict to "see what's going on".

Several members of the Hernandez family believe there is no way the 27-year-old took his own life while his former teammates celebrated their recent Superbowl win at the White House.

He was serving a life sentence for the murder of semi-pro footballer Odin Loyd on June 17, 2013.

That murder could have resulted from Loyd becoming aware of Hernandez's secret bi-sexual life, Newsweek reports.

Hernandez reportedly had a long-term secret affair with a former high school friend.

Despite the family's belief in foul play, Massachusetts District Attorney Joseph D Early Jr said there "were no signs of a struggle, and investigators determined that Mr Hernandez was alone at the time".

"Mr Hernandez was locked in his cell about 8pm and no one entered the cell until a correction officer observed him at 3.03am and forced his way through the impeded door to render aid," the district attorney surmised.

Hernandez had reportedly been planning his suicide for several weeks, even giving away his possessions to fellow inmates.
