Mum feared daughter the 'next Maddie McCann' after alleged abduction attempt

A British mother says she feared her daughter would become “the next Maddie McCann” after finding a Cyprus hotel staff member attempting to grab her young child.

Siobhan Prescott claims she was woken by her one-year-old daughter’s screams while the family holidayed in late February.

The 25-year-old said she found a woman, dressed in a maid’s outfit, standing over the cot at the five-star resort.

Ms Prescott said she screamed out to her partner, who ran in from the balcony, and he confronted the woman who burst into tears and fled the room.

“I was napping when a maid sneaked into the room and tried to snatch my baby,” Ms Prescott told UK media.

“The only reason I woke up was because Harper screamed out, otherwise she could have been the next Maddie McCann.

“When I opened my eyes I thought I was dreaming I was in so much shock.

“I started screaming and I startled her as she tried to pick Harper up.”

The Prescotts demanded to speak to the hotel manager who told them the maid was only checking to see if the toddler was “alright” as she cleaned the room.

But the 25-year-old mother rubbished those claims and said the woman had no cleaning products with her.

“I reported it to the police, and the British consulate but no one seems to be listening,” Ms Prescott said.

“I find it shocking – you’d think after what happened to Maddie McCann they would want to get this woman off the streets. She could be very dangerous.”

The Foreign Office has confirmed it “provided support to a British woman and her family”.

Madeleine McCann remains missing after she disappeared as her family holidayed in Portugal back in 2007.
