Pedestrian knocked out by runaway tyre in freak accident

A Brazilian man is reportedly “feeling much better” after a runaway tyre smashed him in the head and sent him face first into the pavement.

According to local media reports, Roberto Carlos Fernandes was walking with his wife in Ipatinga, Brazil, when the freak accident left him with a fractured skull and chest.

Video from nearby security cameras does not show where the loose tyre came from, but it does reveal the horrific moment it hit Mr Fernandes.

The footage shows the tyre bouncing across the road at speed, while the 50-year-old and his wife walk away from it.

The tyre collides directly with the man’s head, which in turn sends him spearing dangerously face-first towards the concrete.

His wife immediately stops to try to help him as pedestrians and motorists rush to his side.
